I woke up yesterday before my alarm.
Naturally, I assumed I was dying.
But no—just awake. No dragging. No fog. No desire to trade my responsibilities for a remote cave and a pack of Oreos. Just… energy.
And I’ll be real with you: I don’t trust it.
Because when you’ve been riding the hormonal Tilt-A-Whirl that is perimenopause (or post), sudden energy feels like a setup. A cosmic prank. The universe handing you a latte and then pulling it away while whispering, “Just kidding. That was adrenaline.”
But this time? It feels different. Like maybe my body is cautiously stepping out of survival mode. Like the naps are less necessary and the caffeine hits don’t feel like CPR.
And yet—I keep waiting for the crash.
Midlife has taught me to be suspicious of good things that show up without explanation. Like clean kitchen counters. Or my teenager voluntarily doing laundry.
But maybe (and I say this with my whole skeptical, recovering-burnout heart)… maybe my energy’s not lying to me. Maybe it’s returning—because I finally stopped trying to force it back with hustle, shame, or “just push through” vibes.
What Changed?
I’ve been sleeping like it’s my side hustle.
Eating like a grown-ass woman who deserves blood sugar balance.
Walking instead of overtraining.
And finally—finally—asking what my body needs instead of telling it what it should be.
